Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior official stated the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
